[NEWS] Yunho’s Growing Pains, “Challenging Myself To Act Was Like Heading To The Ground”

TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho (Real name Jung Yunho), who is at the brink of debuting as an actor, compared his debut production to ‘growing pains’.
U-Know Yunho will be taking on acting for the first time in MBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘Heading to the Ground’ that first airs this coming September.

One staff member on site said, “Because Yunho gets along with the staff really well and is on a hyung(older brother)-nuna(older sister)-donsaeng(younger brother or sister) basis with us, we often tend to forget that he’s an Asia Hallyu Star. We only remember that fact when we see the fans cheering for him.”

U-Know Yunho revealed his thought about participating in the drama by saying, “Even if we finished filming late and I got back home late at night, I wanted to return to the set again as soon as possible,” and “I’m so into the character of Bong-goon that I sometimes can’t tell the difference between the two. When Cha Bong-goon’s poor and somewhat worthless character comes out of me sometimes, I’m surprised since that is not how I usually behave.”

He showed a rookie-like modesty by saying, “I think the atmosphere on set was really good because of the staff. The staff are the lead roles in this drama. I know very well that I am only acting in front of a camera as their representative.”
When asked what his most memorable scene was, U-Know Yunho picked ‘the scene where I fell into the Han River that is 5m deep.’ When asked to explain further, U-Know Yunho replied, “It’s a scene where I’m sitting at the banks of the Han River when I see a flying ball. Because of my instincts, I head the ball and fall into the river. Because the water was so deep and because I had weights strapped on, it was a completely new experience and I felt like I had accomplished something by suffering through the scene with the staff.”

He also said, “To me, ‘Heading to the Ground’ is like growing pains. It’s a process you have to go through to grow and mature. By the end of the drama, I think I will feel as though I have matured along with Bong-goon.”
Regarding the reactions from around him, U-Know Yunho stated, “My friends said it would be fun but they asked me if it was okay for me to show a ‘ugly, embarrassing’ side of myself. My parents told me to have fun with it,” and “Fellow celebrities told me to go for it and do whatever I want.”

In closing, U-Know Yunho said, “I hope viewers will see me and my honest acting in a kind and generous light,” and “Expect a lot from the passionate youth Cha Bong-goon.”

‘Heading to the Ground’ stars U-Know Yunho, Ara, Lee Yunji and Lee Sangyoon. The first episode airs on September 9th.
