Surveillance camera records have shown that charges against Kang In of Super Junior, who allegedly assaulted other men when drinking at a bar in southern Seoul, were true.
The Gangnam Police Agency said on September 21 that surveillance camera records had confirmed allegations that Kang In had used violence during the fight. The singer was indicted earlier without physical arrest.
Police said the fight began at 3:35 a.m. on September 16 when two office workers mistakenly sat down at Kang In’s table. The fistfight took place outside the bar. The surveillance camera records also showed that three other men later joined Kang In and his friend to help him out.
A police officer said Kang In tried to avoid the fight in the beginning but started using violence because the other man kept following and beating him. During the interrogation, Kang In said he was the victim of assault and denied using violence. Super Junior’s fans insisted that Kang In was innocent and demanded that police disclose surveillance camera records.
Super Junior’s agency, SM Entertainment, announced its official stance on September 21 by saying that Kang In had tried to avoid the fight but had to defend himself against the other man, who kept following and beating him. The agency apologized for the scandal and promised to prevent similar incidents in the future. (KBS)
