[News] Talks about plagiarism pointing to GDragon reignites

GDragon, who has recently been in the spotlight for plagiarism accusations for his solo debut, is once again in media and public’s scrutiny with plagiarism accusations directly from an American media site.

On an American site Pollstar, a post titled ‘The Other Kind Of Song-Sharing’ was posted up on 8th September, saying “The leader of the popular boy band Big Bang has been accused of plagiarism, specifically stealing from songs of Western artists.“

The author went on to write:

The accusations have been so strong that several publishing companies have said they will investigate.

The title track of the album, “Heartbreaker,” is said to have a striking resemblance to Flo Rida’s “Right Round.” Also, the song “Butterfly” seems to rip off Oasis’ “She’s Electric.”

The rights to “Right Round” in Korea are controlled by four companies: Warner Chappell Music Korea, Sony ATV Publishing Korea, Fuji Pacific Music Korea and EMI Music Publishing Korea.

Both Warner Chappell and Sony ATV said they have noticed the similarities and will check with the composers of “Right Round.” However, EMI Music said it saw no similarity.

G-Dragon’s management company, YG Entertainment, has not officially commented.

With the American media directly criticising GDragon about plagiarising music, it seems that the whole talk about music plagiarism will just reignite.

Sony ATV has officially stated their opinions through ‘a normal perspective on plagiarism’. “When the public and experts say song A has plagiarized song B, it is because we were reminded of song B’s special characteristic."

one this is certain...GD did sample the music..cuz theres too much similarities...like im a musician and its totally obvious that he sampled the original songs and changed them however its not plagirism because there are differences and the lyrics are the same. the Hip hop world samples music all the time, like kanye west.. his first 2 albums are all sampled by much older 70's 80's artists

I think its only becoming a big deal because "heartbreaker" is such a big hit. There's a copyright law that requires half of the money made from the copied song to the original composer, and I bet if Heartbreaker wasn't such a big hit, US wouldn't even care. I hope justice is rightly served, because GD and other colleagues worked really hard on this album and they don't deserve this crap talking. Whatever the case is, GD is super talented, so I wish ppl would stop trying to bring him down.
