[video] B2ST TEASER

October is said to be the "Boyfest" with boy bads set to comeback and debut alike. One of those to debut are Cube entertainment's very own B2ST (Boys to search the top). With their documentary giving us a sneak peak before their debut, now they have released their teaser for their upcoming debut album.

B2ST said they wants the title of being the "beastly idols" everyone knows 2pm currently holds that title. A lot of expectations are in these group and hopes are set high for the success of the group upon debut.

After watching the teaser... are you feeling it? getting excited? Already tired of all the girl group and now ready for some guy action? if so, then all you have to do is wait for they are set to debut this month along with MBLAQ and Child of empire.

[news] 4Minute girls make cake to say "thanks"

4Minute debuted under Cube Entertainment this year in June, and 3 months later, they stood on a prize-receiving stage. With sincerity and grattitude, these 5 girls made a cake to say "thanks" to those who have supported them along the way.

29th September, Star Wide News and Entertainment Haha Song(?) revealed the cube cake (as in a cake in the shape of a cube. See the pun?) 4Minute made. Staffs of the programmes directly complimented the girls through radio.

On 27th September, 4Minute received their first trophy on SBS Inkigayo. Muzik became the most popular song(ah yes, I remember that last week or something, For Muzik was No.1 on sales in Korea).

A representative from Haha Song(?) said,"We wish to help all those who want to express their appreciation. Singers usually focus on the sales of their albums, but 4Minute, being a popular girl group, did something to this extent. Their achievement can receive nothing but more approvals." (Here I think he meant that unlike most artists, they care about their album sales PLUS how to thank their supporters. With their focus on so many things, they STILL received a prize and their songs are SO POPULAR. This only shows that these girls are superhumans and good/capable beyond description.)

Also, some special Chuseok programmes featuring 4Minute and other idol groups would be broadcasted during the festive period. (Yes, a reminder! Remember to glue yourself in front of the computer for all the chuseok specials!)

[news] 4minute's HyunA under criticism for super short mini-dress

Girl group 4Minute’s member Kim HyunA has been put under the chopping board of the netizens for the performing costumes she wore, which was deemed indecent and inappropriate for the young fans.

A video of HyunA performing with 4Minute on their new song ‘Muzik’ has been uploaded on Youtube on 19th September, and HyunA’s mini-dress was spotted constantly going up while she carries out the choreography of the song. While she was dancing, the really short miniskirt kept going up, to the point her underpants was visible. HyunA was even seen pulling her mini-dress down.

Obviously, the fashion malfunction lies in the fault of the group’s fashion coordinator.

Netizens say:

“For a young teenager, she is wearing one really short minidress”

“What’s with the coordi?”

“At this rate, her outfit will be deem inappropriate and lascivious”

“This is really going overboard, she is still so yong, u 17 years old”

“This is pathetatic, why are the singers suddenly all under criticisms? It’s like our country has done something. It happened to both male and female singers – beasty idols, sexy idols, young idols”

“Looking at it, her skirt just need to be a little longer and it solves the problem”

“Coordi, you should try wearing it”

DKP_NOTE: for your information... 4minute members are not the one choosing their outfits for their performances.... netizens should sue their stylist for doing this to hyun ah cause clearly she doenst like wearing it! sue their stylist for putting hyun ah to this shame! XD

[NEWS] 4Minute’s JiYoon Was Burnt And Was Sent To The Hospital

On September 9th, according to Korean media, 4Minute’s first mini album “For Muzik” received positive comments from fans and music lovers alike on the 31st of August upon it’s release.

While shooting for the jacket photos of the mini album, in order to complete the task in perfection, 4Minute member Jeon Ji Yoon was positioned right beside the lighting system, and thus had her arm burnt due to its extreme heat from hours of operation. Even so, she was unaware of it. The first one to notice her injury was 4Minute’s stylist, and immediately, Ji Yoon was sent to the hopsital for treatment. After the whole procedure ended, Ji Yoon returned once again to the scene for shooting.
Even though Ji Yoon received treatment for her burnt arm, a scar was left.

[news] 4Minute's dirty dorm

On a recent episode of 4minute's MTV documentary, the ladies unveiled their dormitory to fans. Netizens have noticed two things: Jiyoon wears sunglasses in her own house, and the dorm itself is a bit messy.

As the stylish Jiyoon shows us around 4minute's humble abode, you can see clothes and other random things strewn across the floor. I mean, I don't blame them - no uptight parent around to tell them to clean up. But to find out that none of those five girls are neat freaks surprises me.

[news] The Golden Age of Girl Groups: Agency strategies, trends and most anticipated members!

Move over mister, girls are here to have fun—and there’s no stopping them! KPOP girl groups are all the rage this year, and each of them are trying hard to stand out from the rest. And with the tough competition, their management agencies are devising ways to amp up the hype. In the sea of pretty faces and diverse talents, one girl is bound to rule.

A new breed of fangirls are born. The stereotype of them only being crazy over boys is rapidly changing. Now they’re rooting for their sisters and waving the flag of girl power! An expert stated: “Right now, entertainment has become an industry. Lately, women have been entering more and more into the work field so it is only natural that women have become the focus in the entertainment field as well. Because of women acquiring more power, girl groups in turn have gained more notice. In turn, their popularity will influence the people with things such as fashion and opinions.“
***
Based on music company strategies and audience reactions, I noticed some trends that were used by girl groups in order to make noise in the already jampacked Kpopdom.

2NE1

TREND 1: BEING THE FEMALE VERSION
When YG announced they were going to debut a girl group, many speculations surfaced that they were going the be the “female Big Bang.” Former YG trainee May Doni spoke up and said that this new group will present something no one has ever seen before, bringing a more fierce hip hop style against the backdrop candy pop girl group cutesies. I think being the “female counterpart” of an already huge sunbae definitely creates buzz, more so if the sunbae has established itself as a great group. On the other hand, it adds pressure to the girls because they will always be compared and they have to meet high expectations. Plus it’s not really a way to create a solid identity as a separate group.
CL: The baddest female!

When YG family had a special stage performance with its top artists including Big Bang, Se7en, Teddy, Lexy etc., a fresh face caught everyone’s attention not only because she hasn’t debuted, but because she was F-I-E-R-C-E. Everyone was like, “Who’s that girl??”

What’s interesting in YG strategy is that they allow un-debuted artists to be featured in some songs, which is a good way to become part of his or her training and gain experience. Like CL, who was featured in Big Bang’s Intro “Hot Issue” and in Uhm Jung Hwa’s “DJ.” Did you know that originally YG planned for her to be a solo singing, dancing, rapping artist ala Lexy? Wonder how that would’ve panned out!
***
TREND 2: BEING FAMOUS IN ANOTHER COUNTRY

Dara, known as Sandara Park in the Philippines, has garnered much attention because of her huge stardom in that country. Of course Koreans will get curious as to why and how she made it, being a foreigner and all. Here she is with her photo displayed in her home studio in the Philippines.
***

TREND 3: BEING A FORMER MEMBER OF ANOTHER GROUP
4MINUTE

4minute is a group whose style is a fusion of other girl groups. Before debut, they got a lot of raised eyebrows for looking like After School and 2NE1’s lovechild. Cube Entertainment, JYP’s sister company marketed them as girls that will set a “new trend,” namely Candy Funky—which will reflect in their overall music and style. But again if they wanted to set themselves apart they should have created a solid image instead of trying to be everything in one go. On the other hand, it will present them as a group that is flexible and can show different charms.

Former Wondergirl Hyun Ah. The group’s original rapper (who was later replaced by Yoobin) “was said to have many health issues due to stress and could no longer handle it. Netizens on the other hand, like to believe that her departure was because she couldn’t get along well with the other members. She was said to be the ‘Sexy Little Wild Horse’ because she was over playful and very mischievous.” Did you know that JYP was also considering about making her debut as an actress?

Idunno about you, but I find her quite annoying and unnatural onstage. I don’t see why she gets all the attention just because she was a former Wondergirls member. I mean, it wasn’t like she showed great skills back then. She was just the perfect case for “What could’ve been.” Why can’t people just move on. I think there are better 4minute members that deserves to be highlighted.
***

TREND 4: CREATE A MYSTERIOUS CHARACTER

Like “Junglass Jiyoon,” so-called because she had to wear sunglasses in the whole duration of their Hot Issue promotions. Even in radio stations! LOL but I LOVE LOVE this girl. She’s edgy and she can dance really well. She’s the main reason why I’m looking forward to 4minute’s performances.
***
TREND 5: THE CASE OF THE LOOK-ALIKES
T-ARA/ TIARA

“JiYeon has received loads of attention even before debut for her resemblance to actress Kim Tae Hee, she was given the nicknames of ‘little Kim Tae Hee’ and ‘2nd Kim Tae Hee‘ by netizens.”

Again having resemblance to no less than whom Korea considers as most beautiful ain’t a bad thing. It’s for easy recognition. People would be like, “Oh she’s the one who looks like Kim Taehee!”—which is a compliment more than anything. But the downside would be that there will always be some haters. JiYeon said before that some netizens were bashing her. And there’s a tendency to always be behind that person’s shadow. Kinda like 2PM’s Junho, every time they introduce or interview him they always mention how he’s Rain’s mini-me. I think he looks cuter imho.

HyoMin as SNSD Jessica’s lookalike. Some mean netizens commented that she might have had plastic surgery to look like Jess. ROFL Netizens and their wild imaginations SHEESH.

SoYeon fits the same category as Hyun Ah. She “was known that she was a trainee to debut as part of So Nyeo Shi Dae, she had even performed as part of the group for their showcase and filmed for their MV. But she had left the group a month before their actual debut.” SoYeon said in an interview, “Actually I wished the truth of me being part of So Nyeo Shi Dae was never known. But it was revealed by the So Nyeo Shi Dae fans with our past photos. I still keep in contact with the So Nyeo Shi Dae members. It is good to see them doing very well. But I’ll also do my best as T-ara member.”
***

TREND 6: COMBINE ALL THE TRENDS

SM’S newest and most anticipated girl group f(x) is out! Aside from the weird name, this group looks really promising.

Krystal not only has a lookalike, but is actually the sister of that lookalike LOL. She’s Jessica’s lil sis, and of course with SNSD being a famous sunbae, that’s gonna add to their creds. She was featured in SHINee’s Juliette vid—which is a strategy similar to YG having trainees be exposed to the biz before debut. Like Dara starring in Gummy’s vid with TOP!

Victoria Song, leader

Featured in SHINee’s smash hit “Noona is so pretty.” She’s garnered much attention because she’s already quite popular as a model.

The mysterious character everyone’s talking about!

Amber does not fit any category—but for now her image is a girl who looks like a guy, and with the testosterone deprivation in Kpop right now, she’s bound to get noticed. She’s not just androgynous, she’s even quite handsome! Fangirls are going lesbian over her! LOL. Netizens are even saying she looks like Donghae, Jonghyun, Kibum and Lee Junki’s lovechild. I think she looks cool.
***
So! Who do you think will win this girl group battle? Which among these female group members are you most anticipating?

cr:floatingstars.wordpress

[news] Did 4Minute plagiarize?

Or should I say, Cube Entertainment? It’s such an unoriginal heading around here but I couldn’t help it. And for that matter, I don’t mean it in its most explicit sense.

While “MUZIK” is climbing the charts, I think the rest of 4Minute’s mini album deserves some airtime. I’m not sure about the critiques being churned out as we speak but “For Muzik” hasn’t been the most original collection of songs in my opinion. Let’s get rolling, shall we?

I’ll be reviewing two (out of five new songs) of their more outstanding ones. First off we have what I think is going to be another heavily promoted song – “What A Girl Wants”. After a menacing start with “Hot Issue” and another electronica-inspired track in”MUZIK”, this one comes as a watered-down tune to represent a new chapter of 4Minute activities. Sound familiar?

I hate comparing them to 2NE1 but they rubbed shoulders at their debuts and are releasing their first albums after explosive entrances to K-pop (albeit to varying extents). So 2NE1 hits the scene with “Fire”, followed by a hotly lapped up “I Don’t Care” and now 4Minute is following suit. The latter group seems to be grappling at catching up with 2NE1’s “Lollipop” madness through their release of “MUZIK” but can they really make a mark with this mini album?

Nevertheless, I do have good things to say about “What A Girl Wants”. It’s not only toned down from the horrid whining in “Hot Issue” but is rather catchy, again with the English and being not-so-in-your-face-pop that was their debut song.

Second and finally, we have “웃겨 (Funny)”. Now this one had me doing a double-take at first. The song’s intro sounds sneakily like Britney Spears’ “If U Seek Amy” and we know the subtle connotations on that one. Anyhoo, it didn’t turn out as dreadfully, embarrassingly copied as Hyori’s “Get Ya’” (which had its own problems regarding copyright infringements on “Do Somethin’”) – although I have to say they started sounding like two different songs after a period of time.

Back to the song… catchy is catchy but will you be able to see “웃겨 (Funny)” for its own merits?
