….So far. In what was a very official public survey, the “Entertainer Popularity Survey,” the results were determined by the Leespiar Research Institute polling 1,320 males and females between the ages of 13~65 in 5 cities from around South Korea (metropolitan area, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon).
There are no real surprises on the list other than some of those making the list being solo artists, but I’m not complaining about that.
SNSD took the first place (31.8%) in the female category in the survey. This observation from the original article made be chuckle a bit: ”overwhelmingly through their new song “Tell Me Your Wish” amidst the rise and battle of the girl groups and the girl group wave while Wonder Girls haven’t had any activities in Korea due to their activities in the U.S.” Have we ever seen SNSD and Wonder Girls go head-to-head?
2. 2NE1 (15.8%) – due to the success of a continuous hit song parade (and some smart marketing decisions; 2NE1TV earned them a lot of goodwill)
3. Lee Hyori (15. 3%) Kind of surprised, but not. Lee Hyori’s just got that appeal where she’ll always appear on lists like this.
4. Wonder Girls I don’t know why they weren’t given a percentage, but still, I’m pretty impressed, considering they’ve been overseas the entire time. In my coming out at as a full-fledged Brown Eyed Girls stan, I have come to the horrible realization that I, too have an admiration for the Wonder Girls that borders on irrational. But they do make those dresses look good, you can’t lie.
5. Son Dam Bi (10.2%). I’ve often been perplexed by her popularity, but on a shallow note, she is pretty.
Now for the guys…
Big Bang is number one at 23.5%, barely beating out 2PM. Also impressive as they’ve been concentrating on promotions in Japan, but I wouldn’t be surprised if G-Dragon visibility lended some influence.
2. 2PM (21.7%) Our lovely boys of 2PM, very close at number 2. Enough has been said about their current situation better than I could at the moment, but let’s hope they can maintain that popularity.
3. Rain (16.9%) That’s right bishes! To all the naysayers that said he was washed up, not relevant, Rain is still integral part of the music scene, and I’m not the only one the thinks so! Though honestly, I don’t care if he decides to retire and go into thermonucleardynamics, as long as I get to see those abs.
4. Lee Seung Gi (10.4%) Ok, he’s talented. And cute, cute is always a plus.
5. DBSK (5.2%) And our lovely Gods from the East bringing up the rear. This was supposed a non-netizen influenced survey, or else they would be top two easy. Plus, being in Japan for so long, andstill being on the list – nothing to sneeze it.
Supposedly the data was gathered through a one on one interviews without giving examples for groups and and the subjects were given a choice of up to two names. To get technical: “The results were calculated based on the average number of responses and with a confidence interval of 95%, the margin of error is +-2.70%.”
I’ve heard rumblings of discord that Super Junior are nowhere to be found, but it’s a list, which means people are going to disagree with the rankings anyway. Do you agree with the list? Disagree? How would you rank the idols so far?
