[video] Big Bang - Let Me Hear Your Voice Preview!

Big Bang will be releasing their third single titled, “Let Me Hear Your Voice” (Koe Wo Kikasete), on November 4th in Japan. But don’t fret VIPs - you don’t have to wait that long, because a short preview has been released!

Rumors were also reported about their new single being the theme song for the upcoming Japanese drama, Ohitorisama. Although many sources online claim that Big Bang’s upcoming track will be the theme song, according to TBS’ official site, it states that the theme song will be “Am I Fallin' in Love?” by Kitaguchi Kazusa. Perhaps it will be no the OST? Bad news aside, I’m sure many VIPs will be happy since it sounds like Big Bang has gotten rid of the autotune (judging from the preview)!

[News] TaeYang to Come Back as a Solo Artistbut No Promotional Activities Planned !

By HyungWoo Kim [cox109@newsen.com]

Boy band Big Bang’s TaeYang is coming back as a solo artist after 1 year and 5 months.

His new single, "Where U At" will be released on the 15th. Last year, with his first mini album, “HOT,” containing such hit singles as “Look Only at Me" and “Prayer,” TaeYang made a strong impression on both critics and the public. He successfully broke the mold of a lead vocalist of a popular boy band and garnered both critical acclaim and popular success as a serious musician.

Last year, he topped various music and TV show charts for several weeks and won awards at the Korean Music Awards, where the winners are selected by music critics. When he held his first solo concerts last year, he made one of the shows only for adults, making a bold attempt to communicate with the older generations, breaking the mold of the so-called “idol star.”

The famous dancers from abroad who appear in the "Where U At" music video to be released on the 15th (reportedly) praised him non-stop saying, “TaeYang is better than any professional dancer we have ever seen. It’s absurd that a singer is this good a dancer!”

“Where U At” was written and composed by Teddy, who has made a hit after hit, including TaeYang's "Look Only at Me" and "Prayer" and 2NE1's "Lollypop," “Fire” and “I Don't Care.” The magical pairing of TaeYang and Teddy is making people wait with high anticipation.

The lyrics for “Where U At” were written based on the fact that TaeYang, who’s 21, has never had a girlfriend, and will ring true to the listeners as they truthfully describe TaeYang's real-life situation that he dreams of a girl who must be somewhere in the world and whom he will meet someday.

With TaeYang coming back as a solo artist, competition among Big Bang members is expected to ensue with G-Dragon already dominating various charts with his first solo album. However, don't hold your breath - you won't see any off-line showdown between those two.

YG Entertainment says, “’Where U At’ will only be a sort of preview for TaeYang’s full album to be released on a later date and at this point we have absolutely no plan for promotional activities or appearances on TV shows.”

That is because his second digital single and the title song of the album, "Wedding Dress" is going to be released early November. Therefore, his promotion period will be from mid November through end of the year.

You will be able to get a taste of “Wedding Dress” toward the end of the "Where U At" music video.

There had been a rumor that TaeYang’s first full-length album would be released in October following G-Dragon's first solo album released in August. What exactly TaeYang has up in his sleeves releasing two digital singles first makes people curious. This is what makes people suspect that YG Entertainment might be planning a blockbuster promotional strategy.

TaeYang caused a sensation in the markets for male solo artists last year. Now he is coming back after 1 year and 5 months. He is already making many people curious as to what kind of new style and music he will bring to touch their hearts and wait with a high level of anticipation.

[news] Iris’s strong start endangers Heading’s ending

MBC may be getting ready to let that axe fall for the third time this year. I’m reading conflicting reports about its soccer drama Heading to the Ground, but it’s not looking good.

KBS’s blockbuster drama IRIS has just premiered with a very strong rating in the 20% ballpark. The number was a whopping 24.5%.

That means that the poorly performing Heading, which has several weeks still left to go, is now essentially dead, with Iris and You’re Beautiful getting most of the attention.

One report says that Heading will end early and allow Hero, the Lee Junki vehicle, to begin a week earlier than planned, which would give MBC more to work with in the Wednesday-Thursday ratings battle. That would mean that the 20-episode Heading would need to wrap up by its 18th episode instead. However, Star News reports that MBC has “strongly denied” the curtailment rumors. In a phone interview on the 14th, the MBC source said, “Rumors of cutting it early are ridiculous” and that the drama would end as planned.

As you know, MBC cut Tamra the Island and Strike Love, but strongly denied rumors of cutting Friend, Our Legend, which went on to complete its original run. I’ll be keeping an eye out to see which side prevails.

[NEWS] YG – SBS Relationship

These days, YG and SBS’s relationship has been seen fairly often.

YG has definitely showed that they are more fit for SBS’s programs rather than MBC or KBS. Especially in the SBS Chuseok ‘Idol Big Show’. In this program there was Girls’ Generation and Kara, but G-dragon and 2NE1 from YG Entertainment were shown way more on T.V. So much, some fans called it the YG Special Show. And at the ending of this show, Big Bang preformed as ’special guests’.

For Kang Ho Dong’s new talk show, Strong Heart, G-Dragon and Seungri were among those 24 guests. Also in Intimate Note, Seungri and TOP’s comic characters were shown. On the other hand, Big Bang hasn’t been on MBC’s Golden Fishery.

YG also made the debut of 2NE1 AND G-Dragon’s solo album on SBS’s Inkigayo. At the times it seemed like the two were on a ‘honeymoon’ getting closer to eachother. And of course, the other two broadcasting systems, KBS and MBC were hurt in their pride.
YG head, Yang Hyun Suk wrote on his homepage, ‘I think people are misunderstanding because of our one program per week strategy.’

SBS also said ‘we’re not trying to help YG Entertainment while leaving the other ones out. It’s obvious that we would broadcast the groups with more popularity.’ From YG’s point of view, they get the broadcasting/programing quality that they want, and SBS gets some of the most popular idol groups, so we see it as a ‘win-win’ perspective.

But, YG and SBS’s relationship wasn’t always this good. In 2004 YG and SBS had scheduled for Wheesung’s 3rd album Comeback. But at that time, YG wrote on his homepage, ‘SBS refused to let Wheesung do his comback show because we had him comeback on a different broadcasting system first. Also, SBS had refused to let the idol groups, or singers on their music programs if the singers or groups hadn’t been on one of their variety shows.’

The conflict between the two, YG and SBS, is settled, and has been since 2005.

[news] Iris and Chuno run into production disputes

With only a day before its airdate, the premiere of Iris was thrown into question as the drama’s production company, Taewon Entertainment, announced a dispute with its broadcaster, KBS. After a day of negotiations, the two sides did reconcile and come to an agreement, meaning that the Wednesday premiere of the high-profile action series will continue as planned. But not without some major issues built in, as we learned from the grievances aired by Taewon.

Things had ground to a stalemate in the last days leading to the broadcast date as the production company felt taken advantage of by its broadcaster and their “unreasonable demands.” The day before the premiere, they had gone so far as to announce that they were ready to cancel the drama’s broadcast. KBS had given them an extremely low production budget to work with, supplying a mere 3 billion won (approx $250,000) out of its overall 20 billion won budget ($16 million).

Furthermore, if KBS is only able to sell ads at a rate lower than its norm, they will cut down the promised budget by as much as 30 million won. If viewership ratings come in at under 15%, an additional 10 million won will be withheld. (Here is where we see the argument for why ratings are important; on the artistic front, they are not always an accurate indicator of quality, but on the business front, they are the main barometer for success.)

KBS countered that it is written into the production contract that the broadcast station has the right to adjust the drama’s airing depending on various factors, and also reserves the right to extend or curtail the drama.

Also, this drama doesn’t have a formal contract regarding broadcasting details (which is apparently not uncommon practice), which contributed to the last-minute disputes. KBS’s CP stated that they will be drawing up a formal broadcasting contract soon.

Meanwhile, another drama is facing troubles for a different reason: upcoming action sageuk series Chuno. ts production company, Chorokbaem (Green Snake) Media is facing issues over the right of management, which may endanger the drama’s upcoming broadcast.

Chorokbaem’s controlling capital is coming dangerously close to 50%, and if the matter is not settled by December, it may be in danger of being delisted as a publicly traded stock. In order to prevent this, the CEO and directors are working on a way to undertake capital reduction (which, if I understand correctly, would bring the number of stocks within the acceptable range, thereby rectifying the argument over management rights).

CEO Kil Kyung-jin explained, “This strife comes from a failure to solicit investments for Chuno, and if we face delisting, the worst-case scenario would be the endangerment of the production.”

Chorokbaem Media is responsible for a number of hit series, such as Jumong, All In, Unstoppable High Kick, and Iljimae. However, in recent times, many outside production companies are facing losses, which are exacerbated by unfair contracts with the broadcast stations (see Iris’s case above). One of the biggest problems is that 100% of ad revenues from drama reruns and internet views goes to the broadcast company. Production companies must offset losses with product placement and overseas licensing, among other things, because as we know, production budgets keep rising but the revenues are not growing to match them.

Recently, SBS’s morning drama Green Coach [녹색마차] even shut down filming when its production company failed to pay its actors on time. A representative from the Citizen Network for Media Reset (i.e., reform) asserted that broadcast stations must change their behavior of wielding their power and exacerbating the problems already faced by these outside production companies.

One production company rep who requested anonymity said, “These production companies that make Hallyu dramas are mired in debt. They must bring in adequate profits in order to make good dramas and to revitalize Hallyu.”

[video] Baek Ji Young sings "Don't Forget" for Iris OST [with MV]

The upcoming drama, Iris, has been gathering much attention in past months for its new action genre (and Big Bang's "bad boy" T.O.P as a cast member) but like all other dramas, there is a love story which Baek Ji Young expresses through "Don't Forget" off the Iris OST (Official SoundTrack).

"Don't Forget" is the love theme song for the main character Kim Hyun Joon (Lee Byung Hun) and Choi Seung Hee (Kim Tae Hee). The music video for the song contains the typical drama style: it contains scenes from the drama giving you a sneak peek before its premiere (which is tommorrow!). However, I personally find that the music video for Baek Ji Young's "Don't Forget" focuses a lot more on the Kim-Choi love story, fading the song into the background often, with a lot more talking (warning: contains a lot of spoilers... that is, if you understand Korean!). Check out the music video below:

After Baek Ji Young's techno-based "My Ear's Candy" from her mini-album Ego (featuring Ok Taecyeon of 2 PM), "Don't Forget" is a refreshing change and a beautiful love ballad as well. Be sure to watch out for the release of the full OST later on, and Korea's first spy drama, Iris, premiering tomorrow!

[news] Some More Info about G-Dragon's First Solo Concert

G-Dragon, leader of popular idol group Big Bang, will hold his first-ever solo concert on December 5 and 6, according to his agency on Tuesday.

His solo concert, "Shine a Light", to be held at the Olympic Park will accomodate some 24,000 fans, YG Entertainment said.

YG added that the 21-year-old songwriter, rapper and singer has started practicing all night everyday to prepare for his concert which he is also engaged in directing.

G-Dragon had topped music charts over the summer with his first solo single "Heartbreaker" which has sold over 200,000 copies so far -- the highest number by a solo artist this year.

YG went on to explain that, like they did early this year with Big Bang's concert, they will not hand out tickets on invite for G-Dragon's concert either in consideration of the fans. All 50,000 seats for the five-member idol group's performance in January had sold out within minutes of going on sale.

"We will invest all we can into the stage, lights and sound for G-Dragon's performance to create the best concert," said YG.

[news] Who Is the Next Solo Star?

Daum loves their polls, and here’s another one for you to dissect. A recent poll poses the question of which idol singers would receive the most success when (not if) their group breaks up. The top ten was determined from the consensus of about 12,000 people polled. Who came out on top?

1. Yunho – “Heading to the Ground” isn’t exactly a big hit, but netizens love their U-Know, you know (whose idea was that name?). Fans believe his acting skills will become positively Shakespearean with time. He’s also hot.

2. Micky Yoochun - Not the one from Dong Bang Shin Ki I would have picked for a solo singing career, but perhaps it’s the power of the pimp hand.

3. G-Dragon – Most overrated idol? Fans are calling him the next Seo Taiji. He already has a massive selling solo album under his belt, so it’s not difficult to imagine him going after bigger and better things in the future.

4. T.O.P – Well, no argument from my end. Handsome, and already has some acting experience under his belt. I definitely would like to see more of TOP the thespian in the future (Iris!).

5. Sunye – This one surprised me a bit- some are saying she may be the second Lee Hyori. JYP had intended for her to originally debut solo, but Sunye opted to join a group. Not disappointed that she beat out Sohee for this spot; whenever I see Sunye perform (especially solo) she does have a certain “something” that lends itself to her charisma and nice vocal skills. I could see this happening in the future.

6. Taeyeon – She’s got the vocal chops, therefore crowning her the rising ballad queen. Taeyeon also has a good reputation with the public, so out of the Soshis, she could be the most successful.

7. Yoona – Netizens think she may eventually be in league with actresses Jeon Ji Hyun and Kim Tae Hee. Really? Ok, well I can accept more as an actress than actress/singer, but she has received an unprecedented amount of attention considering her resume. She’s got plenty of time to prove herself, and I think she’ll be one of the first to break away for good in order to do so.

8. Siwon – Hot, folks love him

9. Kim Hyun Joong – He’s still riding a wave of momentum from “Boys Over Flowers,” but that poor boy needs to take a year long nap before he gets attached to any more projects.

10. Han Seungyeon – This one is the head-scratcher for me. Apparently netizens think she is cute and that she stands out the most in KARA. Hmm, I thought it was Nicole, but I personally don’t see anyone in KARA having a successful solo career, unless they also try acting.

Honorable mentions go to every other member of DBSK (seriously), Heechul and Kangin from Super Junior, Daesung, Jessica and Tiffany from So Nyeo Shi Dae and Sohee (dang it).

As with all polls, public opinion, grain of salt etc., but for the purposes of discussion, do you think this was fairly on the money? Who do you think will break out from the current idol crop to become the next Lee Hyori or Rain?

[news] Reason why Big Bang opted for no-broadcast for Dream Concert

Many fans were curious as to why group Big Bang decided to have their performances edited out from the broadcast of Dream Concert 2009.

Dream Concert 2009 took place on 10th October in Seoul World Cup Stadium, and Big Bang full team was there performing. But during the concert broadcast on 11th October at 3.3opm, their performances were edited out and not broadcasted. Fans were looking forward to seeing the whole team perform with DaeSung joining the team.

So what was the real reason for the no-broadcast?

It was explained that YG Entertainment has requested for the no-broadcast. Back in August when they signed the contract to perform at the concert, YG Entertainment had already requested for no-broadcast.

A Dream Concert staff said, “Every year, there will be entertainment companies who will request for no-broadcast. There is no problem to that.” And YG Entertainment also clarified, “Because it’s the participation in such concert that is an important thing, we did not put our mind for broadcast of the performances.”

They also added, “It is a rule in YG Entertainment for no-broadcast if it is not the official promotion period for Big Bang.”

But this was said to be ambiguous since Big Bang members went on broadcast show ‘Strong Heart’ during the chuseok week, and their performance as ‘Asian Song Festival’ in September was also aired. It was only for Dream Concert where there was no broadcast of their performance.

YG Entertainment then clarified, “Because it was DaeSung’s first performance after his car accident, and he couldn’t dance well – Big Bang was not at their normal or optimal condition. Because Big Bang could not show their best features, we decided that there will be no broadcast of their performance.”

Another group 2PM’s performances were also not broadcasted as their leader member JaeBum left the group about a month back due to his MySpace messages controversy.
